Counterstrike Clan

I've been playing in a casual Counterstrike clan the last several weeks. I've always been complete rubbish at first-person shooters (FPS) but that hasn't stopped me. My stats are slowly - very slowly - improving. I'm no fan of FPSs. Never finished Far Cry or Half Life 2. Both are visually excellent but I can't find the motivation to stick it out. Second Life

After seeing so many articles on Second Life, I finally installed it, created an avatar and had a wander/fly around. Yes, it's quite cool but I can't see myself spending that much time in it. But I can see the attraction and potential especially if you do make a bunch of friends there. I like the scripting and building aspect. Everyone can be an artist. One day, it will be visually fabulous. Of course, the economic angle is very clever. Better than a chat room.

School IT Troubles

I've been doing a lot of work lately up at my son's junior school. They had been having a lot of strange network problems so I started helping. The more I dig, the more problems I find. First it was just IP address conflicts because DHCP wasn't setup correctly. Next, it took me a long time to figure out why Active Directory Group Policies weren't being applied properly forcing me to learn several new utilities and registry hacks. It turns out that they didn't have write permissions to the DNS server they were using meaning the domain wasn't registered properly.
