Last week, I finished building the kids a new budget game PC. I've written it up as an article. Of course, they're thrilled having a PC that can now run a bunch of new games. Current favourite is Zoo Tycoon 2.
I'm trying to use Alcohol 120% so that they don't need to touch the orginal CD's. Having some success but not all CD's are copying. I'm also trying out Acronis True Image 8 for disk imaging. If I ever have to wipe the drive, it will make it so much easier.
Bought another Netgear GS105 Gigabit switch. The network is now fully gigabit enabled and I've got three machines running at gigabit speeds.
I recently discovered iSCSI and the thought of running a SAN using iSCSI across the network has some appeal. Technically cool but I can't justify it at the moment. Something for the future.
I finished building my new media server and wrote it up. I had quite a bit of trouble getting the Promise SATA378 driver to work properly. Finally figured out you need to F6 and install it at the beginning of the Windows Server 2003 install despite the installation instructions. It took a few days to figure that out.
I've configured a 698Gb (soft) RAID 5 array and I'm quite happy with the performance of it. I can now keep working on ripping my CDs. Next thought....wonder if I could run a video server?
